Comic Books
Jack Katz began working in the comics business in 1942 when he was fifteen years old. During this early period, Katz worked on The Flame, Archie, and Bulletman comics. From 1952 – 1954, Katz worked for comics publishers Pines, Standard, Continental and Fiction House. From 1953 to 1956, Katz worked for Atlas Publications, which later came to be known as Marvel Comics. At Atlas, Katz drew forty stories for the genres of War, Western and Mystery. This was his most prolific period in the comics industry. Altogether, Katz drew over 60 stories during this Golden Age period.
Katz left the comics industry in 1956 to explore new directions as an oil painter and art instructor. In 1969, after encountering new inventiveness in the comic book world, Katz returned to the comic book industry and began pencilling stories for DC Comics, Marvel Comics, and Warren Publications. In 1970, Katz joined Skywald Publications and began working as an artist and associate editor. There he wrote and drew numerous horror stories and developed the character Zangar with Gardner Fox. In addition, Katz drew numerous stories during this period which were never were published. From 1969 to 1974, Katz drew over 28 stories. |
